The Philippines government has proposed a 2018 defence budget of PHP145 billion (USD2.9 billion), a year-on-year increase of 5.5%, the Philippine Department of Budget and Management (DMB) announced on 15 July.

In its statement, the DMB said the increase in the 2018 defence budget, which amounts to 4% of total proposed government spending during the year, will ensure the internal security of the country and public order and safety in the communities.

A breakdown of the 2018 defence budget was not provided by the DMB but previous expenditures have provided the Philippine Army with about 43% of the expenditure, with the Philippine Navy and Air Force receiving about 16% and 14% respectively.
